Some ideas about getting computers to 'talk' were first thought of in the 1960s, but it wasn't until the 1990s that people and businesses started to use the Internet as a quick way of communicating. The World Wide Web was invented by Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau in 1990 to make a common space where people could share information. In 2006, there were more than 92 million websites online.
